Educational Preparation

Reading by the library

Preparation for any liberal arts program begins with a solid high school background. Students planning to major in African American Studies are encouraged to take composition, literature, speech, history, mathematics, science, and foreign languages.

Courses in African American Studies will fulfill the humanities requirement of the College of Liberal Arts as well as elective courses in several majors (e.g., Southern Studies, social work, journalism, engineering and business).
